All the cold weather clothing to protect the body, for men and women, down to −60 °C: thermal base layers, fleece, parkas, trousers and coveralls. The 3-layer system, without the bulk.
Protecting the body from extreme cold isn't about a single garment — it's about a system. At Grand-Froid, the Body range covers the three layers that, combined, insulate down to −60 °C, for men and women alike, in outdoor use (hiking, skiing, mountain stays, the Arctic Circle) as well as professional use (cold stores, logistics, winter sites).
The second skin that wicks moisture away (merino wool or synthetic): the foundation of insulation. A dry body is a warm body. See thermal underwear.
The breathable intermediate layer: a modular thermal barrier you add or remove depending on activity and temperature. See fleece & jackets.
The rugged outer shell, windproof and insulating, for polar or industrial conditions. See warm parkas.
Lined warm trousers and salopettes provide continuous leg insulation, and coveralls deliver full-body protection with no thermal bridge — the ultimate gear against the extreme.
Why layer three garments instead of one thick coat?
Because the air trapped between layers insulates better than a single thickness, and you can remove a layer as soon as you warm up to avoid sweating — the number-one enemy of warmth.
Which material for the base layer?
Merino wool (warm even when damp, odour-resistant) or a technical synthetic (fast-drying). Avoid cotton, which holds moisture.
Men and women: the same garments?
The technologies are identical, but the cuts differ. Most of our ranges come in men's and women's versions for an optimal fit.
