The RefrigiWear Softshell 0490R brings over 400 g of insulation inside a water-repellent, wind-tight softshell. Its reflective Silver Twill lining sends body heat back to you. How to use the 0490R — The layering system

The 0490R is the outer layer of a system, on the move or standing still. Its performance depends on what you wear underneath: choose layers for the job, not just for the temperature.

1st layer: breathable thermal underwear that wicks perspiration away. Avoid cotton.
2nd layer: the adjustable one. Light fleece for continuous effort. Thicker fleece for waiting periods.
3rd layer: the 0490R, which brings insulation and protects from the wind.

Complete severe cold kit:

Head: insulating hat or balaclava, neck gaiter. Hands: thin liner gloves + cold-weather gloves or mittens. Feet: thermal socks + insulated footwear suited to the temperature.

Field tip: dress at the temperature of the workplace. Getting kitted out in the warm and then heading out means starting already damp: that moisture reduces insulation for the whole mission.
