The Momentum 3 is the women's snow boot from Kamik, the Canadian winter-boot maker based in Montréal since 1898. It is built for the days when you go out whatever is falling: a 600D nylon upper with sealed seams, a synthetic rubber base and outsole, a construction that stops slush and road salt before they reach the sock.
Inside, the HEAT-MX™ 145 g insulation is fixed and lined with a fleece that moves moisture away from the foot, with a faux-fur collar closing the top of the shaft. The whole boot stays light enough to wear all day.
The quick-pull bungee laces adjust with one hand, even in gloves. Available in EU sizes 36 to 42.
A snow boot is often bought a size too big, "for thick socks". With fixed insulation it is the other way round: take your own size, a Norveg merino sock, and the foot stays put. The rest — walking through Rovaniemi at −25 °C / −13 °F, the way back from the safari, the night out under the aurora — the Momentum 3 does without you pulling more than a lace.
Warmth comes from two layers working together: the HEAT-MX™ insulation holds the air warmed by the foot, the fleece lining moves perspiration away, which stops the foot cooling through damp. The comfort rating applies on the move: as long as you are walking, the foot produces its heat and the boot keeps it. Standing still — waiting, watching, working on frozen ground — heat loss through the sole takes over: add a thick wool sock and choose the size that leaves the foot free, a compressed foot gets cold.
A snow boot that pairs a sealed textile upper with a rubber base: the textile gives lightness and flex when walking, the rubber takes the slush and salt where a boot wears. The fixed insulation and fleece lining do the rest, with no liner to pull out and dry separately.
Why the feet lose heat first:
Feet that stay cold often point to heat lost elsewhere — cover the head first. Under the boot, the Norveg women's thermal socks complete the system. In slush it is the salt that wears a boot out, not the cold: a rinse in the evening buys it winters.
