Protection given down to −40 °C / −40 °F*. The Yoho bets on mobility: 1.99 kg (4.38 lb) a pair for a mid-height 23.5 cm (9.25 in) upper, a Superlite™ Blend shell and a LiteGrip™ Blend base with a Polar Rubber® outsole. The Active-Fit liner moulds to body heat and ends up following the shape of the foot. A velcro tab at the heel keeps it secured to the shell, with toggle speed lacing and pull loops at the back and on the tongue. Snowshoe ready, vegan build. EUR sizes 39 to 48.5.
A removable liner has one drawback everybody who owns a pair knows about: it comes away with the foot when you pull the boot off, and it has to be pushed back in every time. A velcro tab at the heel keeps it secured to the shell — the boot comes off in one movement, the liner stays where it is, and it only comes out in the evening to dry. The other point plays out over time: the liner thermoforms to body heat, which means it feels firm for the first few days and then hollows out at the pressure points. A boot that comes round to the shape of the foot rather than the other way about.
The Active-Fit liner goes after warmth with as little material as possible. Against the foot, the Thermawick™ lining clears perspiration and evens out temperature; the thermoformable B-Tek™ Foam moulds to the shape of the foot; B-Tek™ Lite, a proprietary aero-insulation blend, reaches the insulating volume of air on reduced thickness; and the four-channel hollow fibre B-Tek™ Heat completes the volume while staying breathable. On the outside of the liner, a PolyNylon blend carries the durability without adding weight, and Diamond Net closes off the passage of air. Under the foot, the Superlite™ Blend shell and the LiteGrip™ Blend base cut conduction with frozen ground, the main route of heat loss when standing still. One point decides the outcome: the sock must never grip, because any compression crushes the air and removes the insulation.
Because it looks for warmth through construction rather than bulk: the B-Tek™ Lite aero-insulation reaches the volume of air on less material, the Superlite™ Blend shell brings the pair down to 1.99 kg (4.38 lb), and the Active-Fit liner comes round to the shape of the foot over successive outings. Added to that are two details in use: the velcro that holds the liner in place and the gaiter clip at the vamp.
A light winter boot is judged at the end of the day, when you have not felt it
