Quilted warmth, with no hood and nothing in the way

The Stormtech Nautilus QX-1 is a men's quilted jacket without a hood, designed for everyday cold. Its outer shell in 100 % polyester pongee, 90 g/m², carries a durable water-repellent DWR finish, and the quilted body with ultra-soft lining delivers warmth without bulk. The insulation is synthetic and feather-free. Comfort from +5 °C / 41 °F to −10 °C / 14 °F*, from S to 6XL. The high collar and the absence of a hood make it easy to wear under a hooded parka, with no bunching at the neck.

The Grand-Froid expert's view

With no hood, it layers without getting in the way: this is the 2nd layer you keep on under a parka all day. The chin saver keeps the zip slider off the skin when you close it right up. Pair it with a thermal base layer for the coldest days.

What is it for?

The Nautilus QX-1 targets everyday cold and layered wear. Here are the situations where it performs best.

  • 2nd layer under a hooded parka — from −10 °C / 14 °F to −30 °C / −22 °F, with no bunching at the neck and no surplus hood
  • Commuting through the cold season — platforms, car parks, bus stops, wherever wind drives the felt temperature down
  • Wear in ventilated indoor spaces — warehouse, workshop, stockroom, when the heating falls short and a parka would be too much
  • Occasional outdoor use in dry weather or light rain — the water-repellent finish sheds a short shower, with no claim to waterproofing
  • Mid-season — worn on its own from +5 °C / 41 °F to 0 °C / 32 °F, it is ample while active

Thermal protection

The quilted body holds warm air against the skin, and the ultra-soft lining limits heat loss at contact. The full-length internal stormflap doubles the zip line up to the chin, while the elasticated cuffs and the adjustable hem close the extremities. Breathability measured at 1,000 g/m² suits moderate activity. Two limits must be clear: this model is water-repellent and not waterproof, it sheds a short shower but not sustained rain. And with no hood, head and neck are left to a 3rd layer or a beanie once the cold sets in.

Size guide

The Nautilus QX-1 has a straight cut. For standard use, choose your usual size.

To wear it over a thick jumper or a fleece, allow some room — if in doubt, take the size above.

For an accurate reading, take your measurements in underwear or a light t-shirt, keeping the tape flat against the body without pulling it tight.

Why choose the Nautilus QX-1?

Because a quilted jacket without a hood layers anywhere. Nothing binds at the neck under a parka, nothing shows under an outer shell, and the full-length internal stormflap closes the one true leak in any zipped garment. Worn on its own, it holds down to −10 °C / 14 °F* with feather-free insulation that does not migrate and washes without special care.

The Grand-Froid three-layer system: a breathable thermal base layer moves moisture away from the skin; an insulating 2nd layer, here the Nautilus QX-1, traps body heat; a 3rd layer protects from wind and water. This model is at its best as a 2nd layer, under a waterproof outer shell once rain sets in or the temperature drops below −10 °C / 14 °F.

* Indicative thermal comfort from +5 °C / 41 °F to −10 °C / 14 °F. Perceived warmth depends on activity level, wind, humidity, body type and the layering system worn underneath.
