Lacing and a YKK zip work together: tighten to adjust, the zip speeds up everyday wear. Sheep's wool traps warm air around the foot while the full-grain leather keeps outside moisture out: the heat your foot produces stays inside instead of escaping through the sole. The Goodyear welt closes the join between upper and sole without the weak points of glue, which can crack over time and let the cold in.
Water resistance holds as long as the leather and seams stay in good condition — prolonged immersion is not recommended.
