Shearling sheepskin slipper, made in France: leather on the outside, wool against the foot. The upper, the inner sole and the wide border are cut from the skin; a cowhide outer sole closes the build and the seams are sewn with an abrasion-resistant technical thread.

Six size ranges, EU 35/36 to 45/46, unisex fit. The fit matches your usual size; the size guide below gives the foot length for each range.

Patchwork version: each pair is assembled from offcuts of skin in several shades (grey, blue-grey, white) in a layout that is not chosen. No two pairs look alike and yours will not be the one in the photo. It is the same construction as the plain version, at a lower price.

What is it designed for?

An indoor slipper is judged on the floor it insulates from and on how long it stays on the feet without squeezing them. This one suits the following situations.

Evening sitting down: several hours still on the sofa or in an armchair, feet resting. The foot produces almost nothing; the wool keeps the little it gives off.
Tiles, polished concrete, uninsulated wood floors: the cold comes up from the floor by contact, in any season. The wool thickness under the arch does the work.
A day working from home: eight hours seated, often in a room heated less than the rest of the home. The slipper goes on and comes off without effort and stays presentable if someone comes in.
Moving around the home: kitchen, stairs, getting up at night. The cowhide sole grips naturally on a dry floor; on a wet floor it slides like any leather.
People who move little: circulation slows when seated or lying down and the extremities cool first. The fit squeezes neither the ankle nor the instep.

Thermal protection

The wool on a sheepskin is a scaly fibre that traps air between its curls: it is that still air which insulates, not the fibre itself. Under the foot, the sheepskin inner sole puts this layer of air between your arch and the cowhide leather; it slows heat transfer into the floor. Around the foot, the upper keeps the heat you produce. The same wool absorbs sweat without ceasing to insulate and releases it into the room air, which spares you a clammy foot at the end of the evening. This slipper carries no temperature rating: it is designed for a heated home and a cold floor, not for outdoors. What chills a seated foot is what it touches, not the air in the room.
