On its own, in dry conditions, this bodywarmer covers cold down to −15 °C / 5 °F on the torso. Worn over a fleece or a sweatshirt, it closes the system where the body defends itself first, since circulation to the extremities is cut back before the torso. Water beads off a shower : under sustained rain, pair it with a hardshell.
Because it targets the part of the body that matters first. When the cold sets in, circulation to the hands and feet is cut back to protect the torso : that is where warmth is held most effectively. Add a fleece underneath on the coldest days, and a shell in the rain.
