A single balm never stays where it should in a household: it ends up in someone else's coat. Five sticks let you keep one in every place that matters.

Each stick lays down a film of waxes and rich oils that seals moisture in and shields the surface from the elements. The formula contains no water at all, so nothing in it can freeze against the skin.

Beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil feed the surface, while a vitamin E derivative keeps the blend from oxidising. Vanilla scent, five 4.5 g sticks.

Offers no protection against the sun.

The skin on the lips is far thinner than the skin on the face and makes none of the oil that would shield it: it needs topping up, and often.

Thermal protection

The film it leaves clings to the surface and slows the evaporation that wind and dry air speed up. That mechanism, rather than any temperature figure, is what counts once the weather turns.

An anhydrous blend: it holds no water.

Ingredients (INCI): Paraffinum Liquidum, Beeswax, Ozokerite, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polyisobutene, Cera Microcristallina, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Polyethylene, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate, Parfum.

Why wear a lip balm in winter?

Because lips are the one part of the face with no oil of their own to fall back on: they lose water faster than the rest, and nothing in the body makes up for it.

  • Two nourishing plants: shea butter and coconut oil soften a surface already worn.
