Protection given down to −40 °C / −40 °F*. The Chloe applies the build of Baffin's all-round models to a women's last: same Tundra rating, same liner, same outsole unit. A 27.9 cm (11 in) suede leather upper with a faux fur collar, D-ring lacing, and a rear pull loop. The base combines an Arctic Rubber™ shell, an EVA midsole and a Polar Rubber™ outsole. Inside, a removable seven-layer Comfort-Fit liner that lifts out to dry. EUR sizes 36 to 41, four colourways.
In hard cold, what wears a boot down is not the temperature but the alternating: ten minutes outside, an hour in a heated building, ten minutes outside. With every cycle, vapour settles into the insulation, and the damp that has built up comes back as cold feet the following morning. The liner comes out completely: that is what resets things each evening, and it is what a stitched-in fur lining cannot do. The other point shows up when walking: the volume at the heel follows a women's shape, and a foot that does not shift inside the boot keeps its grip on an iced pavement.
In activity, the enemy is no longer cold alone: it is the moisture you produce yourself. Saturated insulation loses most of its power, and the penalty arrives once you stop. The Comfort-Fit liner is built to move moisture out before it holds it: Thermaplush™ carries perspiration away from the skin, Hydromax™ moves it onwards, and the four-channel hollow fibre B-Tek™ Heat keeps volume of air while staying breathable. The thermoformable B-Tek™ Foam moulds to the shape of the foot and removes pockets of cold air. DiamondNet™ closes off the passage of air without adding bulk, and the vaporised aluminium membrane reflects the energy the foot gives off back towards it. Under the foot, the Arctic Rubber™ shell and the EVA midsole cut conduction with frozen ground. The Tundra rating places optimum comfort at high-intensity activity. One point decides the outcome: the sock must never grip, because any compression crushes the air and removes the insulation.
Because it is pitched at one use in particular: hard cold on the move, on a last that follows the shape of the foot. The breathability of the stack handles the moisture you make under effort, the shell and midsole cut conduction with frozen ground, and the removable liner dries every night. The suede upper finishes the picture: the same pair covers the early start and the day in town.
A boot that holds up through winter goes unnoticed: you put it on in the morning and stop thinking about it
* Indicative temperature. Perceived warmth varies with activity, body type, humidity, wind, length of exposure and the socks worn.
