HUPPA Gudrun Women's Long Winter Coat, engineered for extreme cold down to –20 °C (–4 °F). Powered by eco-friendly 400 g/m² ECO Down insulation (recycled PET fibers), featuring a 5,000 mm waterproof and 5,000 g/m²/24h breathable membrane. Equipped with a detachable hood with faux fur trim, 360° reflective details for safety, and heavy-duty YKK zippers.
Developed in Estonia by Huppa, the Gudrun long coat is made for winters where the cold comes with damp. It pairs 400 g/m² Eco Down insulation, a fill of recycled polyester fibres with a loft close to down, with a 5,000 mm waterproof, 10,000 g/m²/24h breathable membrane. Its long cut covers the thighs and blocks the wind where a parka stops.
Worn as a 3rd layer, it goes on over everyday clothes or a fleece thanks to a satin-touch lining that slides over the layers beneath. The waist has an elastic toggle drawcord that shapes the silhouette and closes the way in for cold air. Sizes S to 3XL, i.e. EU 36 to 48 on the manufacturer's chart.
Features: detachable hood fastened to the collar with press studs, removable faux-fur trim, two-way zip that opens from the bottom for sitting down, ribbed cuffs, reflective elements on the fabric.
Turku, late January, −14 °C / 7 °F and a damp wind off the harbour. A long coat changes one thing people underestimate: the thighs. Standing at the bus stop, sitting on a frozen bench, you stay warm where a parka stops. Open the bottom zip before you sit down and the coat neither pulls nor rides up. Length insulates as much as thickness.
Eco Down is a fill of fine fibres that trap air the way down does, with one advantage: synthetic fibre does not collapse when it gets damp. At 400 g/m² it forms a thick layer of air around the torso and thighs: you stay warm in wet snow and in dry cold alike. The outer fabric blocks the wind, the membrane keeps water out and lets vapour through, and the waist cord and ribbed cuffs close the air gaps. The comfort range runs from 0 °C / 32 °F to −20 °C / −4 °F; the lower end assumes a merino base layer and a fleece underneath. The coat insulates the torso and thighs: hands, head and feet need their own protection.
Because it combines what a damp winter asks of a city coat: thick insulation that does not mind the rain, a length that covers the thighs, a membrane and a two-way zip for living seated as well as standing.
The three-layer system:
Down insulates better dry, recycled fibre still insulates wet: in a damp winter, it is the second that gets you through the day.
* Indicative temperature. Perceived warmth varies with activity, body type, humidity, wind and the layers worn underneath.
