The Stormtech Patrol XB-3W is a women's waterproof, breathable softshell jacket. Its H2XTREME® 10,000 mm / 3,000 g/m² membrane stops water and wind, while fully sealed seams and waterproof zips close the two points where water usually gets in. The outer fabric in polyester bonded to jersey, 240 to 265 g/m² depending on the weave, keeps the support and stretch of a softshell. Comfort from +5 °C / 41 °F to −10 °C / 14 °F*, from XS to 3XL. An outer layer you wear all year round, with room for a warm 2nd layer underneath in deep winter.
You keep it on from start to finish: hood up in the downpour, hood off once you are under cover. The gusseted cuffs open over a glove and close down on a bare wrist, with no fiddling. Add a quilted 2nd layer underneath to go lower in temperature.
A softshell does not generate warmth on its own: it protects the heat produced by the body and by the layers worn underneath. Here, the H2XTREME® membrane stops water and wind while letting vapour escape, the fully sealed seams remove leaks at every stitch line and the waterproof zips close the openings. The dropped back, the adjustable hem and the adjustable gusseted cuffs block cold-air entries at the extremities. Worth knowing: the Patrol XB-3W is a 3rd layer. Worn on its own it covers down to −10 °C / 14 °F while active; at a standstill or lower in temperature, it calls for an insulating layer underneath.
Because it brings together two qualities rarely found in the same garment: 10,000 mm of waterproofing with fully sealed seams and waterproof zips, in a bonded fabric that keeps the support and stretch of a softshell. The detachable storm hood does the rest, and a single jacket covers field work, the trail and the commute.
The Grand-Froid three-layer system: a breathable thermal base layer moves moisture away from the skin; an insulating 2nd layer traps body heat; a 3rd layer protects from wind and water. The Patrol XB-3W is that 3rd layer: it protects the warmth of the layers beneath. To go below −10 °C / 14 °F, add a quilted jacket underneath.
* Indicative thermal comfort from +5 °C / 41 °F to −10 °C / 14 °F. Perceived warmth depends on activity level, wind, humidity, body type and the layering system worn underneath.
