A stable glove first and foremost. The palm is Dryhide™ treated full-grain goatskin, water resistant. It takes a second cowhide layer over the top, at the exact spot where a lead rope, a line or a bucket handle wears a glove through.
3M Recycled Thinsulate™ EC60 insulation stays slim, so the fingertips keep their precision. The back is denim, the thumb seamless in the driver style, the wrist gathered elastic with an open cuff.
At a riding centre in January, hands spend the morning on cold metal and damp rope. That is where the second leather in the palm earns its keep: it absorbs the friction of the lead rope, where an ordinary glove opens up within weeks. The seamless thumb counts as much: no stitching presses into the pinch when you pull.
Recycled Thinsulate™ EC60 insulation holds the air your hand has warmed within a slim build: that is what leaves you enough feel to buckle a headcollar or work a knot loose. The Dryhide™ treatment keeps water at bay without making the glove waterproof: under sustained rain or in a bucket, moisture eventually gets through.
This is a groundwork glove rather than a riding glove: its thickness suits work on the yard rather than the fine contact of the reins. Over long motionless mornings, a thin liner glove added underneath widens the comfort range.
Because it addresses the weak point of every stable glove: the palm. The cowhide reinforcement doubles the material where the rope does its work. Added to that is a seamless thumb, a detail you notice within the first week.
What wears a glove out on the yard:
In prolonged severe cold, a thin liner glove added underneath makes a real difference.
