A work fleece that does not look worn out after one winter : the knit keeps its appearance wash after wash, at the elbows and hips as much as anywhere else, where an ordinary fleece pills within a season.
It closes right up to the collar, adjusts in one movement without undressing, and its pockets close — enough to bend, carry and straighten up without losing anything.
You put it on in the morning and you keep it on : it follows you from the workshop to the dock, from the dock to the car park, without asking for attention. The right move is to open it before you get hot rather than after : you avoid sweating, and you head back out into the cold with a dry back.
On its own, in dry and still conditions, this fleece covers cold down to −10 °C / 14 °F. As soon as air moves, the perceived cold drops : under a windproof layer, it becomes the insulating layer of the system, and the working temperature of the whole then depends on the shell.
Because it sits where warmth is won : between the skin and the wind. It holds the air the body has warmed, adjusts without undressing, and stands up to professional use over time. Add a thermal base layer underneath and a shell over the top : that trio is what makes the difference below zero.
The three-layer system:
* Indicative temperature. Perceived warmth varies with activity, body type, humidity, wind and the layers worn underneath.
