The secret of insulation: Still air
Insulation does not come from the material itself, but from the air it traps. The 120 g of polyester fibre builds a volume of still air between the lining and the outer fabric, forming a thermal barrier. To be effective, this volume must remain dry: a wet fibre conducts cold instead of stopping it. This is the role of the waterproof-breathable fabric and taped seams. The rest comes down to the openings: the high-rise back waist and inner gaiters eliminate freezing draughts. High-quality trousers rarely lose heat through the fabric — they lose it through their extremities!

Watch out for the inside leg: The column above indicates your leg length. The actual inside leg of the trousers is 81.3 cm for all sizes (a straight cut designed to fall perfectly over snow boots).
Between two sizes? Go for the larger one. The Sims are designed to be worn over everyday trousers or jeans. If they are too tight, the insulation will be compressed and will lose its thermal efficiency.
Care & Durability
- Machine wash (delicate cycle) with a mild detergent, free from phosphates or additives.
- No fabric softeners or bleach: they clog the membrane's pores and destroy breathability.
- Close all zips and velcro before washing to avoid snagging.
- Tumble drying at a low temperature is recommended to reactivate the water-repellent finish and restore the insulation's loft.
- Storage: do not store the trousers compressed or crushed, as this may permanently flatten the insulating fibres.

Why insulated trousers rather than classic overtrousers?
The lower body is protected using the same 3-layer principle as the torso, but the thermal balance is different. Your legs, made up of large muscles, generate a lot of heat when walking. They tolerate the cold better than the trunk and much better than the extremities. That's why trousers with 120 g of insulation are more than enough where the upper body would require a very thick parka.
- Layer 1: Thermal underwear next to the skin to wick away sweat before it gets cold.
- Layer 2: Your everyday trousers or jeans, as the Sims slip on very easily over them.
- Layer 3 (These trousers): Stops water, snow, and wind, while trapping body heat.
Remember: on extreme cold weather trousers, it's almost never the fabric that fails first: it's the waist and the ankle. A garment well sealed at the extremities is much better than very thick trousers that are open to draughts.
