The waterproof-breathable hardshell — armour against wind and rain.
Professional multi-weather jacket: 10,000 mm waterproof and 5,000 g/m²/24h breathable membrane, windproof. No insulation — it is the protective layer to wear over a fleece or a light down jacket to take on deep cold.
The James & Nicholson JN1814 Pro Multi-weather hardshell jacket is a professional protective shell: windproof and waterproof (10,000 mm water column), while staying breathable (5,000 g/m²/24h). Built for extreme weather, it is a true armour against wind and rain — to combine with a warm layer (fleece) to take on deep cold.
A hardshell is first a barrier: here, the 10,000 mm membrane blocks rain and wind, and the 5,000 g/m² breathability vents perspiration during effort.
It is not a warm jacket in itself — it is the protective layer that seals a multi-layer system. Combined with a fleece or a light down jacket, it turns winter kit into a weatherproof set, ready for outdoor work or the outdoors in bad weather.
The hardshell is a protective layer (3rd layer), not a warm layer. It has no insulation: warmth comes from the layers worn underneath. Its role is to block wind and water while letting you breathe — rated at 10,000 mm (waterproofing) and 5,000 g/m²/24h (breathability).
Because it is the ultimate weather protection: where a down jacket keeps you warm, the hardshell blocks water and wind without suffocating, thanks to its 10,000 mm / 5,000 g/m² membrane. It is the piece that seals a multi-layer system for outdoor work and the outdoors in any weather, sizes XS to 5XL.
* Manufacturer values: waterproofing as water column (mm) and breathability (g/m²/24h). A hardshell has no temperature rating: warmth depends on the layers worn underneath.
