A fleece you wear like a coat: the outer knit has a marl finish, and the inner face is a sherpa fleece that traps the air your body has warmed.
The stand-up collar and the lined hood with its drawcord close the top of the chest, the YKK® zip with chin guard and inner storm flap shuts out draughts, and five storage pockets sit on a straight cut.
You put it on before first light and keep it on: it holds up when you stand still, where a thin fleece gives up after an hour. Pull the hood drawcord in as soon as the wind turns — that is what makes the difference on a fixed post. And keep the inner pockets for what suffers in the cold: spare gloves, phone, papers.
Down to −20 °C / −4 °F standing still, in dry weather with no wind, body motionless and hood up. As soon as the air moves, the perceived cold drops: under a windproof layer it becomes the insulating layer of the system, and it is then the outer jacket that sets the working temperature of the whole.
Because it is built for standing still, not for effort: it carries the highest fabric weight in our fleece range, and that thickness does its work at the moment the body stops producing heat. Wear it over a thermal base layer, and under a parka on the days the wind gets up.
