Protection given down to −60 °C / −76 °F*. The Workhorse EPS brings the build of Baffin's polar boots to PPE: a mid-height polyurethane leather and nylon upper resistant to oil and acid, rust-resistant easy-pull eyelets, a rear pull loop. It carries a composite safety toe and penetration-resistant plate, a polyurethane base and a rubber outsole with self-cleaning multi-directional lugs. Inside, a removable seven-layer Comfort-Fit liner that lifts out each evening. Arctic rated, CE certified. EUR sizes 40 to 47.
A safety boot goes on for eight to ten hours a day, five days a week, and that rhythm is what finishes it off: the foot sweats, damp settles into the insulation, and within a month the boot no longer holds the temperature it did on day one. Here the liner lifts out completely — it dries overnight, it sets off dry the next morning, and it can be replaced once it has packed down without touching the shell and its toe cap. Second point that shows up in use: the multi-directional lugs are self-cleaning, releasing mud and packed snow rather than holding onto them, which keeps the grip through the back-and-forth between site and vehicle.
The Comfort-Fit liner stacks seven layers with distinct jobs. Against the foot, Thermaplush™ draws perspiration outwards before it condenses; the thermoformable B-Tek™ Foam moulds to the shape of the foot; the four-channel hollow fibre B-Tek™ Heat builds the volume of air, which is the real insulator. Midway through the stack, a vaporised aluminium membrane reflects the energy the foot gives off back towards it, DiamondNet™ closes off the passage of air and Hydromax™ clears residual moisture. Under the foot, the polyurethane base cuts conduction with frozen ground or the concrete floor of a cold store, the main route of heat loss when standing still. The Arctic rating places comfort at moderate to high activity. One point decides the outcome: the sock must never grip, because any compression crushes the air and removes the insulation.
Because it brings to a safety boot what the category usually lacks: a removable liner. On daily wear, that is what decides the comfort temperature over the months, since it dries every night and can be replaced independently of the shell. Added to that are the composite toe and plate, which hold the mechanical protection without conductive metal, and a self-cleaning outsole that keeps its bite between site and vehicle.
On daily wear, what wears a work boot out is not the cold, it is the damp you leave inside it
* Indicative temperature. Perceived warmth varies with activity, body type, humidity, wind, length of exposure and the socks worn.
