The Malamute S3 is an ankle-height winter safety boot. Its 3M Thinsulate 200 g lining fills the whole boot, and its PU-TPU outsole carries the CI marking, insulation of the sole against cold. The upper is water-repellent split nubuck, 1.6 to 1.8 mm thick, backed by a breathable, abrasion-resistant mesh lining. It brings together everything the S3 class requires: a safety toe cap, a penetration-resistant midsole, a water-repellent upper, antistatic properties and energy absorption at the heel. The outsole is also oil resistant and meets the SRC slip-resistance level. Reflective details. Sizes 38 to 48.

A winter boot is bought once and worn five months straight. What matters then is as much the breathable lining as the insulation: a foot that sweats in the morning and dries poorly ends the week cold, whatever the weight of insulation on the label.
What is it designed for?

Thermal protection
The CI marking is what separates a genuinely insulated boot from one that is merely lined. It is not a marketing claim but the outcome of a test: the whole boot spends thirty minutes at −17 °C / 1 °F, and the temperature measured inside must not drop by more than 10 °C.
Above the sole, the work is done by 3M Thinsulate. Its microfibres, far finer than a conventional insulating fibre, hold more still air for the same thickness — and it is that air that insulates. The 200 g weight is the heaviest of the three commonly used in work footwear: the one for jobs where you stay put rather than walk.
That leaves moisture, which comes from both sides. The water-repellent nubuck keeps the outside kind away from the insulating fibres, which it would render useless. The breathable mesh lining deals with the inside kind, letting the vapour produced during effort escape rather than holding it against the foot.

Take your usual safety boot size. The Thinsulate insulation is thin and does not eat into the space inside, unlike a fur lining: the room stays available for the foot.
If your feet sweat a lot, take half a size up. It leaves room for a mid-weight sock, whose job is to absorb moisture and move it away from the skin. It is that moisture, more than the outside temperature, that cools a foot as the day goes on — and a thin sock in a tight boot cannot pick it up.
Care & Durability
- Brush the nubuck dry, with a soft-bristled brush, to lift off soil and dust
- Bring the nap back with a nubuck eraser on the areas rubbed shiny
- Apply a nubuck waterproofing spray after each cleaning, to keep the upper water repellent
- Dry at room temperature in an airy room, away from a radiator or a stove — direct heat stiffens the leather and weakens the bonding
- Take the sockliner out in the evening and leave the boot open, so the insulation dries between two days
- Keep away from rich creams and greases, which clog the nap and turn nubuck into smooth leather
