The Nickel S3 is the winter version of an ankle-height safety boot. The upper is hydrophobic grain leather, 1.8 to 2 mm thick, enough to stand up to slush and a muddy site. Inside, a breathable textile lining filled with synthetic fur wraps the foot and the ankle. It keeps everything the S3 class calls for: a steel toe cap rated to a 200 joule impact, a steel penetration-resistant midsole, antistatic properties and energy absorption at the heel. The dual-density PU-PU outsole resists oils and meets the SRC slip-resistance level. Added to that are a PU overcap across the front of the foot, which takes the knocks, and a reflective PVC strap. Sizes 38 to 48.

What is it designed for?
This boot is for jobs where foot protection is required and the work is done in the cold, outdoors or in unheated premises.

Thermal protection
Cold reaches the foot by two routes: the damp that gets through, and the contact with the ground. The hydrophobic leather, 1.8 to 2 mm thick, answers the first — water and slush bead up instead of soaking in, and that is what the S3 letter requires of the upper. The synthetic fur lining answers the second: its fibres hold a layer of air around the foot and the ankle, and it is that still air that insulates. The PU-PU outsole adds its own thickness between the sole of the foot and the ground.

Take one size up from your usual safety boots. Three reasons add up:
- The fur lining already takes up part of the inside volume
- You will be wearing mid-weight or heavy wool socks in them
- The room left over lets you swap the sockliner for an insulating insole
That margin is not a comfort detail: a compressed foot cools down faster than one with air around it, and a boot that is too tight undoes the benefit of its lining.
Care & Durability
- Brush off mud and soil after use, a soft brush and water are enough
- Feed the leather regularly with a suitable wax or balm, so it keeps its suppleness and its water repellency
- Dry at room temperature in an airy room, away from a radiator or a stove — direct heat cracks the leather and weakens the sole bonding
- Take the sockliner out in the evening and leave the boot open, so the inside dries between two days
- Alternate two pairs if you can: leather that dries out fully lasts considerably longer
