An all-leather winter work boot, with no safety toe cap
The Industry is an ankle-height work boot built for winter. Its upper is made entirely of oil-tanned nubuck leather, 1.6 to 1.8 mm thick. Inside, a breathable, abrasion-resistant polyester lining is filled with synthetic fur. Underneath, a rubber outsole, oil resistant and slip resistant. It falls under EN ISO 20347, the standard for occupational footwear: it protects against cold, damp and impact at the heel, but carries no protective toe cap and does not replace safety footwear where regulations require it. Its markings are FO, oil-resistant outsole, E, energy absorption at the heel, CI, insulation against cold, and SRA, slip resistance on soapy ceramic tile. Sizes 37 to 48.

Thermal protection
At the foot, cold comes mainly from the ground. That is what the CI marking addresses: not a marketing claim but a test — the whole boot spends thirty minutes at −17 °C / 1 °F, and the temperature measured inside must not drop by more than 10 °C. Few work boots carry it.
Around the foot, the lining filled with synthetic fur holds a layer of air right up to the top of the shaft, and it is that still air that insulates. The oil-tanned nubuck keeps outside moisture away from those fibres, and the rubber outsole stays supple as the temperature drops, where other materials harden and lose their grip.

Size guide
European sizes, from 37 to 48. Take your usual work boot size.
Rule number one: keep the foot dry. It is moisture, far more than the outside temperature, that cools a foot as the day goes on. Wear a mid-weight wool sock, which absorbs perspiration and moves it away from the skin. If your feet sweat a lot, take half a size up to leave room for it, and carry a second pair of socks to change into at midday.
If your feet feel the cold, take a full size up and a good pair of wool socks. The extra room is not wasted: it is more air around the foot, and it is the air that insulates. A thick sock in a boot bought in your usual size does the opposite — it compresses, the circulation slows, and the foot gets cold faster than it would with a thin sock.
Care & Durability
- Brush the nubuck dry after use, with a soft-bristled brush
- Bring the nap back with a nubuck eraser on the areas rubbed shiny
- Apply a nubuck waterproofing spray before first use, then about once a month in daily use
- Keep away from rich creams and greases, which clog the nap and turn nubuck into smooth leather
- Dry at room temperature in an airy room, away from a radiator or a stove. Crumpled newspaper inside speeds up the drying
- Take the sockliner out in the evening and leave the boot open, so the lining dries between two days
- Alternate two pairs if you can: leather that dries out fully lasts considerably longer
- No washing machine, and no acetone, alcohol or chemical cleaning product
