These insulating insoles slip into any boot or shoe to cut the cold coming up from the ground. They combine a fleece felt that holds still air with a layer of aluminium foil, over a polyethylene backing. Cut them to size along the pre-marked lines. Sizes 36 to 50.
These insulating insoles are made to go into a boot or a shoe you already own, in place of the sockliner that came with it. They are built from 50% fleece felt and 50% aluminium foil, over an inner layer of polyethylene. Each pair carries pre-marked cutting lines, so you trim them to the exact shape of your own footwear with a pair of scissors. Two references cover the whole range: 36 to 46 and 47 to 50.
Most boots come with a thin factory sockliner that does nothing against the cold. Swapping it is the cheapest way to make winter footwear warmer, and the only one that works on the side the cold actually comes from — underneath.
Under the foot, the cold comes from contact with the ground. Standing on cold concrete, your body loses heat downwards without a break, and no jacket or sock will make that up.
The fleece felt does most of the work: its fibres hold still air, and it is that air that insulates. The aluminium foil adds a second effect, reflecting back part of the heat radiated downwards instead of letting it go into the floor. The polyethylene layer closes the underside and keeps ground moisture away from the felt, which would otherwise lose its effect.
Because they work on the one side of the foot that most winter kit ignores. Socks, boots and jackets all deal with the air around you; the ground is a different problem, and it is the one you are in contact with all day long. For the price of a pair of socks, they make a boot you already own noticeably warmer.
