The Luxy Hugo winter work jacket (CXS) is robust site gear designed for professionals operating in cold, dry environments.
It stands out with its detachable sleeves, allowing it to instantly convert into a work bodywarmer depending on the intensity of the effort. Designed with an ultra-durable 100% cotton twill (260 g/m²) outer fabric, it features a full fleece lining that effectively traps body heat during active work. It is equipped with a zip fastening under a storm flap and multiple tool pockets.
An indestructible "2-in-1" work jacket, built to adapt to temperature and effort variations throughout the day.
Most workwear forces you to choose between being too hot or too cold. The Luxy Hugo offers a different solution: its sleeves detach, and the fleece-lined jacket becomes a bodywarmer in seconds. A single piece thus covers deep winter and mid-season, without the need to change or carry two jackets. The outer fabric is a 260 g/m² cotton twill, a tightly woven canvas that resists abrasion while remaining comfortable on the skin, backed by a full fleece lining that traps warm air. The main zip is protected by a hook-and-loop storm flap, and the hem features side elastication to block cold draughts when bending over.
You keep this jacket from October to April, and the sleeves come off by March. Cotton performs well in use: it doesn't stick to the skin and withstands friction better than thin synthetics. It does, however, absorb water in the rain, so pack an outer shell on wet days. Detach the sleeves before washing; they dry separately.
Warmth here comes from the fleece lining, whose raised fibres trap a layer of air that the body heats up. The cotton twill plays a supporting role: its tight weave blocks the wind far better than a loose fabric, without being a full membrane. The side elasticated hem and elasticated cuffs seal off the two main routes through which this warm air escapes fastest. Cotton absorbs water, it is its nature: under sustained rain, the fabric soaks up water and loses its insulating power, whereas it would stay dry under a brief shower. On wet days, this jacket requires a waterproof outer shell over the top. The −10 °C rating applies when active and assumes a complete layering system: a thermal base layer directly against the skin, a thin mid-layer fleece in harsh weather, and the jacket as the outer layer. Worn over a simple t-shirt while standing still, it offers significantly less protection.
Because it covers two seasons with a single piece. A winter jacket stays in the wardrobe six months a year; this one converts into a bodywarmer as soon as sleeves become a hindrance, and is still useful in April when mornings are crisp and afternoons are mild.
Correct placement in the layering system:
Cotton is excellent as an outer layer and must be avoided as a base layer: it is all about its position in the layering system.
* Indicative temperature. Perceived cold varies depending on activity, morphology, humidity, wind, and the base layers worn.
